The best way to apply makeup is not necessarily the traditional way. A better method means shaking up the application order.

There are a few items that must be present in a makeup bag. These products can be found at drugstores and grocery stores and do not need to cost a lot of money. It is important to note that some makeup products are made from the same ingredients regardless of cost such as mascaras, lip liners and eyeliners.

Staple items:

  • Skin: moisturizer (make your own), foundation, powder, blush
  • Lips: lip liner, lipstick, lip gloss
  • Eyes: eyelash curler, eye shadows, eyeliner, mascara

Application Steps:

Before getting started with the makeup, apply a moisturizer and immediately curl eyelashes.

  • Fact: Always curl eyelashes. It makes a significant difference before mascara application. It completely opens up eyes and aids in making eyelashes appear as long as possible.

Apply foundation and powder as needed. When satisfied with the “facial canvas,” start to work up the face.

  • Fact: Choosing the right foundation takes a little more time and effort. True blend lines and mineral makeups offer a more flawless coverage.

Decide on a lipstick color first. Line lips and fill in with the pencil before applying lipstick or lip gloss.

Traditional practice says to start with eye makeup. Though this seems backwards to some, completing the lips first helps to accurately judge how much more makeup is necessary.

  • Fact: Lipstick is like the shoes or handbags of makeup. Women are more likely to change their lipstick color than any other item of makeup. The problem is, most women apply it last and their eyes and blush are not balanced or matched appropriately.

After choosing the shade of lipstick, move to applying blush. Apply until it looks complementary to the lipstick.

  • Fact: Because the “finishing touch” has already been applied, there is no danger of overcompensating for it and applying too much rouge.

Before starting the eyes, look at the face. Look at the lipstick shade. If it is dark, eyes should be lighter, and eyes can be more dramatic with a lighter more natural shade of lipstick.

Applying eye makeup will be a lot easier and balanced after lipstick and blush has been applied. Start with mascara and let it dry. Sometimes, mascara is all that is needed with lipstick and blush.

If the mascara is not enough, move to eyeliner. Smudge it under the lashes and on top if necessary. Finally, if more color is desired, add the eye shadow. Medium color first and then darker in the corners if necessary.

This method of application creates a perfectly balanced look.
